On a personal note...

Brett Talk celebrated it’s first birthday a few months ago which is super exciting. I’m beyond thrilled that this website has taken off more and more with so many interviews and reviews of countless of shows I’ve seen...however something was still missing. With the inception of Brett Talk came another part of me that I wanted to share that I didn’t get to with my previous blog and that was more personal posts. I’ve always been a writer and always have loved writing. Whether it was short stories during the summer, essays during school or lengthy Facebook posts to make a point, it’s always been apart of me.

Last year, during Pride Month, I wrote a more personal post about “Straight Pride” and how it is not a thing nor should it be celebrated. I took time to research stats, listen to others and really develop out a post about how unfair this country still is, even in 2018 at the time, for LGBTQ people. I was so proud to have posted it and still see it gaining traction whenever the subject is revived in the public. Those are the posts I want to continue writing.

I’m excited that I’m finally taking the time to branch out with Brett Talk into what it was always supposed to be and that is a place for me to share my thoughts and opinions. These are going to range from pretty much anything and everything that I want to talk about. I’m going to share deep and personal thoughts about life, the current political climate, LGBTQ issues, travel and more! Don’t worry though, I’ll still be cover lots of theatre in the Twin Cities!

Below are just a few things that I’m hoping to cover in the coming months and year:

Travel

I am by no means a travel writer. I’ve never had the desire to be one of those people who pack up their lives, quit their job and empty their 401K to begin traveling the world with their blog. No shade to those who do, it just was never in my plan. That being said, I have gotten to do more traveling in the recent years due to work or just finally having the income to take a trip. I want to begin sharing those stories more of what I’m doing, where I’m going and what I’m seeing. I always post on my Instagram however you know the saying - a picture is worth a thousand words, or in my case at least a blog post.

Keep an eye out for my first two travel posts coming in the next couple of days about my first visit to Disneyland and being one of the first couple of hundred people to get to explore Disney’s newest addition Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!

Decision 2020:

Graphic from CNN

Game of Thrones may be over so winter has officially come and gone however guess what? The next election is coming. Yes, decision 2020 will be here before we know it and we are all in for a bumpy ride as we currently have over 20 Democrats eyeing the nomination slot to take on President Trump next year. If you follow any of my social media, or know me in person, you’ll know that I’m a political junkie. While I’ve pretty much narrowed in on the candidate that I want for the Democratic nomination, who knows what’s going to happen. Just a few months ago I was rooting for someone else. Will my mind change again? WIll Biden keep his front runner status? Will someone swoop in and take it from him? Who knows, but I can’t wait to watch some debates and see how the primaries play out.

Mark your calendars for the first round of Democratic Primary Debates on Wednesday, June 26th and Thursday, June 27 both at 9PM ET/8PM CST on NBC News.

LGBTQ Issues

Let’s get one thing straight - pun not intended - this country is still extremely unjust and unfair when it comes to queer people. Yes, we’ve made tremendous strides in LGBTQ rights including marriage equality being the law of the land however that is still under attack nearly every day by various conservative politicians. Whether you are an queer adult or queer youth, you deserve to be heard. You deserve to be recognized. You deserve to live without having any fear of being treated differently simply because of your sexual orientation or gender identity.

Happy Pride month everyone

So as you can see, I’ve got a few ideas. These will not just be normal posts that I’m writing but also meeting with people, conduct interviews and more. I’m by no means a professional journalist but what I can say is that I’m a storyteller and a writer who has strong opinions on stories that need and should be heard.
