After seeing a fabulous production of Guys & Dolls last weekend, I'm beyond thrilled to be able to partner with Lyric Arts in bringing you the cast of their upcoming production of God of Carnage! God of Carnage is hands down one of my favorite plays. I still remember the first time I saw it was at the Guthrie back when I was in High School and then later worked on a production of it in college during my undergrad at Winona State University. God of Carnage is originally by Yasmina Reza and translated by Christopher Hampton. This production is also in perfect hands with director Scott Ford.
God of Carnage is a hilarious dark comedy where a playground altercation between eleven-year old boys brings together two sets of parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses—and the rum flows—tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their liberal principles in tatters. Winner of the 2009 Tony Award for Best Play, God of Carnage dives into the deep end of parenthood, exploring the tense and volatile world we live in with cutting wit and poignant observations on the fragile nature of civility.
Bill Williamson returns to Lyric Arts in playing the role of Alan Raleigh. He most recently starred in their productions of You Can't Take It With You and Superior Donuts. Williamson also was in The Odd Couple with Don Maloney on the Main Street Stage who was also cast in this production as Michael Novak. Maloney has also been a variety of other Lyric Arts Productions including You Can't Take It With You. These two are comedic gold and I can't wait to see what they do with these roles.
Jamie Jachimiec will be playing Williamson's wife, Annette Raleigh. Jachimiec also starred in the recent production of Superior Donuts. And for the final role, Katie Wodele will step in playing Maloney's on stage wife, Veronica Novak. Wodele is returning to Lyric Arts after a haitus from their stage. She has been seen in The Laramie Project and Good People.
